So, the countdown is on for TrekFest The Peaks, thanks so much for joining us Sophie! Firstly, it would be great to hear what made you decide to take on our ultimate trekking adventure?

“For me personally a 25km trek over some rough terrain is a huge challenge, I have MS so to be able to do this is a personal achievement for me and the fundraising is an added bonus”.

“I got my MS diagnosis in April 2016; the prediction was I would be in a wheelchair before long as it was very active and aggressive. I was offered an amazing treatment which I began in August 2016 with my second course in August 2017. This treatment has enabled me to have my life back, it’s given me time to keep up with my 2 daughters (13 and 10) and to show them that if life throws you lemons you make lemonade.

“I want to show people that you can still achieve things and that you should aim to achieve and not give up.”

Wow, what an inspiring story – How’s your fundraising and training going in the lead up to the challenge?

“Last year I raised money for the MS society but this year I am fundraising for the 1st Clipstone Guides and Brownies unit that are local in the village I live in, and the girls will be helping with my fundraising efforts which will go towards one of their badges.  We have an Easter raffle running at the moment, with scratch cards, cake sales and coffee mornings planned later in the year.

“Training wise we pop to the peaks when we can in the school holidays as a family for terrain training and incline training!! And every other week my daughter and I take part in our local parkrun along with gym and swimming when I can fit them in.”

I signed up on my own in 2018 for TrekFest and met some truly inspirational people along the way

Great work! Have you ever done anything like this before?

“I did the 25km trek last year in the peaks, my first ever challenge and I completed it (despite people thinking I would!)”

Amazing, well done! That’s great to hear! How did you find last year’s challenge?

“I signed up on my own in 2018 for TrekFest, met some truly inspirational people along the way and completed my challenge in 9hrs 31 mins, I may have come last but I finished! This year I want to better my time so I’ve started training now and am looking forward to pushing myself again – although this time I plan on taking in the beautiful scenery and getting a few pics!”

Good luck with your training Sophie! We can’t wait to see you at TrekFest The Peaks this August!
