TrekFest The Beacons Route

The Brecon Beacons National Park is the perfect location for a trekking adventure! Full of lively market towns, picturesque walking trails and home to the mighty Pen y Fan – the UK’s highest mountain south of Snowdonia.

Join us on a Brecon Beacons hike as we take on TrekFest 2020!

TrekFest The Beacons takes us on an incredible journey through this unique National Park. Our TrekFest Village, located at The Brecon Showground, is situated in the heart of the Brecon Beacons – surrounded by rolling hills and deep forests.

We have two route options available – 25km or 50km, so whatever your experience – or whether you want to walk, jog or run TrekFest, we’ve got you covered!

Hiking in the Brecon Beacons

25km Route (15.1 miles approx.)

The start of our route takes us along quiet country lanes, before reaching our first checkpoint at approximately 9km. We then start to ascend Pen y Fan – the highest peak in South Wales at 886m. The ascent twists its way up from the valley floor and we’ll be treated to magical views of Llyn Cwm Llwch below. We’ll then reach Corn Du ridge, passing the Tommy Jones Obelisk on the way.

It’s then time for our final incline to the summit of Pen y Fan, where we will be welcomed with incredible views across the beautiful Brecon Beacons.

After a moment to enjoy our surroundings (and catch our breath), it’s then time to make our way down to our next checkpoint.  The initial descent is steep, as we head along the ridge of Cefn Cwm Llwych. After taking a moment to refuel at the checkpoint, we then make our way to the TrekFest Village, following country roads and sections of the Three Rivers Ride path.

50km Route (31 miles approx.)

Our 50km challenge begins by following the same route as the 25km. Upon reaching the summit of Pen y Fan, we then head to the peak of Fan y Big, one of the four main peaks of the Brecon Beacons. We then descend to our checkpoint and enjoy a well-deserved hot meal! The route then continues through Taf Fechan Forest, following part of the Taff Trail. We’ll continue along the Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal, before reaching our final checkpoint at Talybont-on-Usk. It’s then the final push to the finish line at our TrekFest Village!
